Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

When a child goes through a traumatic experience, it can affect their thoughts, emotions, and their behaviors. The ways they cope with stress in life can change, too, and it can be hard on the caregivers as they’re trying to understand how to respond.

TF-CBT walks with both the child and the caregiver(s) to bring awareness, trauma processing, and self-sustaining change to each person. TF-CBT is effective for children struggling with PTSD, trauma-related depression, anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, and self-blame. TF-CBT additionally treats behavior problems while improving parenting skills for the caregiver(s).

In TF-CBT, We Will Focus On:

  • Understanding how the trauma is impacting the child’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors

  • Building a toolkit of body relaxation and emotional regulation techniques for both the child and the caregiver(s)

  • Processing the child’s trauma in creative ways

  • Improving parent-child communication

  • Getting equipped with the tools needed after sessions are finished
